DESCRIPTION:What is mental health (well-being)? What is mental illness? And what is the difference? How does our Christian faith intersect with mental illness? \nIn this seminar we’ll explore some answers to these questions using the social sciences and a biblical understanding of what it is to be human. Together we’ll discuss how this knowledge and understanding can assist us in nurturing our mental health. And navigating how to live well when there are episodes of mental illness. \nIn Australia\, 1 in 5 people aged 16–85 (22%\, or 4.3 million) experienced a mental disorder in the last 12 months. Christians are not immune\, and these rates are similar in our churches. Most of us know and love someone who has a mental illness and this seminar is for you too. \nDate: Thursday\, 16 October\nTime: 7-9pm\nLocation: Figtree Anglican Church foyer \nThe seminar will be facilitated by Steve Dinning from our 10am congregation. Please contact Jo Brain if finances are an obstacle. \nOur guest speaker\, Paula\, will be leading us to explore God’s Word together\, discovering how the early church lived and what their community-focused approach can teach us today. \nWe’ll dig into the tension between collectivism and individualism\, and how these impact both our church life and our personal relationship with Jesus. Plus\, we’ll see church community through the fascinating perspective of a New Testament woman. \nWe are slowing down the program this year to be less rushed and allow more space to reflect and time to connect. However\, you will still get the benefit of all the lovely things this retreat time away offers. That includes: \n\nThree sessions together with worship\, teaching and stories\nCarved out time alone with God plus small group time\nExcellent food in a restful location\nTime to connect with other beautiful women\nLots of electives options\nBonus: An external qualified massage therapist will be offering 15-minute shoulder and back massages in the afternoon. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Preliminary Theological Course (PTC) is an excellent way to dig deeper into your biblical knowledge\, both to bless your own relationship with God\, and help everyone who is leading others in places like LifeGroups\, youth\, or kids ministry. \nDoctrine\, or systematic theology\, is in the end why we open our Bibles\, why we preach and teach\, and the basis of how we respond and relate to God. Doctrine is all about what we actually think and believe. If reading Scripture is gathering the ingredients\, doctrine is the meal that is served up in the end.  \nIn ‘Doctrine 1’ we learn and remind ourselves what God wants us to know and believe about who He is\, what He is truly like\, and how we can know Him and know about Him with certainty. Paul’s instruction to Timothy was to “watch your life and doctrine closely” (1 Tim 4:16); here is great chance to go for a doctrinal check up. \nFull course notes are provided\, so if you miss a week you will not be lost\, and the exam at the conclusion of the course is optional. \nDate: The course runs for 10 weeks on Wednesday nights\, starting 10 September \nTime: 7-9pm \nLocation: Figtree Anglican Church \nCost: $30\, including all course materials \nRegistrations close Monday\, 8 September. \nFor more information about the course\, contact Shane Dirks. \n\n\nREGISTER
