Parish Governance

Wardens and Parish Council

Our church is part of the Anglican Church of Australia. Parish governance is managed by the wardens in consultation with a Parish Council under the leadership of the Senior Minister.

At Figtree Anglican Church, the Parish Council is made up of six councillors and three wardens alongside our treasurer. The wardens are also responsible for administering the financial and property affairs of the church. In our parish, each parish councillor serves alongside a pastoral team member in a Ministry Area Team.

Parish Nominators and Representatives

Five nominators are elected each year. In the event that the Senior Minister retires his position, the role of the nominators is to source potential candidates to fill the vacancy and provide their recommendations to the Archbishop for his consideration. The Archbishop is responsible for appointing the Senior Minister to a Parish. The Parish, through the nominators, can make recommendations.

At Figtree Anglican Church, we take the teaching and leading of our children, youth, and other vulnerable people seriously, which means ensuring we provide an environment that is safe and protects them from harm. This includes the appointment of Safe Ministry Representatives, with their role to assist us to comply with the safe ministry requirements of the Sydney Anglican Diocese. They are also available to have a conversation about any concerns you may have that are related to safe ministry.

The Synod is the annual gathering of representatives of the churches of the Diocese with the Archbishop. The Synod meets to consider matters affecting the order and good governance of the Diocese. Our Parish has two Synod Representatives who attend and participate in Synod meetings on behalf of our Parish.
