find a place to belong

Next Steps

Been visiting for a little while? We’d love to get to know you. Find out how to get connected at Figtree Anglican Church.

Connections

If you’re new, or have been visiting for a short time, Connections events are a great place to start to find your place to belong. These events are opportunities to meet the leadership team, other people who call Figtree Anglican Church home, and find out more about the church.

To find out when the next event is, contact our Connections Minister, Jo Brain.

Christianity Explored

If you’re curious about Christianity, this series is designed to guide you from the very beginning.

Christianity Explored is a series of seven sessions designed for anybody who wants to find out about Christianity or rediscover their faith. Through reading passages from Mark’s Gospel, videos and discussion, these sessions are a chance to understand what the Bible says about life and God. All questions are welcome, and all are invited to come along.

Courses begin in the first week of each school term. To register your interest, contact our Evangelism Minister, Langdon Stewart, or check our Upcoming Events page.

Belong Course

‘Belong’ is a jumpstart to life at Figtree Anglican Church. This two-session course is for anyone new to the church and looking to find out more about what belonging looks like. We’d love to get to know you and explore some possible next steps and ways of belonging.

To find out when the next course is, contact our Connections Minister, Jo Brain.

LifeGroups

LifeGroups are a great opportunity to connect with other Christians, dig deep into God’s Word and grow our faith. LifeGroups are where life happens!

LifeGroups are small groups where life and God’s Word intersect. At Figtree Anglican Church, we are passionate about the valuable impact that LifeGroups can have in helping to transform the life of an individual; alongside others on the same faith journey. Our LifeGroups seek to:

  • Read and study the Bible, seeking ways to personally apply the teaching;
  • Pray together;
  • Help each other to become more like Jesus – be accountable;
  • Genuinely support and care for each other.

Contact our Connections Minister, Jo Brain, for more information about joining a LifeGroup.

Baptism and Confirmation

Once someone has become a Christian, the Bible calls for them to be baptised. If someone is baptised as an infant, they can choose to be ‘confirmed’ once they are older.

Baptism is a sacrament commanded by Jesus; it is for all Christians. It is a sign God gives us to demonstrate his grace and goodwill towards us. Baptism is where God declares a person is ‘In Christ.’ There is an opportunity in baptism for promises to be made. When a person makes those promises, their faith in God’s salvation through Jesus is also seen. In baptism, one is immersed in or splashed with water as a sign that they are in Christ, his Holy Spirit lives in them, they belong to His church, and their sin has been washed away.

Confirmation is an opportunity for Christians who may have been baptised as infants to make a public declaration of faith. In confirmation a person confirms that they now take responsibility for the promises made in their name at baptism. Public confession of faith is part of fighting the good fight of the faith that the apostle Paul speaks of in 1 Tim 6:12. Confirmation is a service of laying on of hands and prayer for God’s blessing and for the strengthening of the Holy Spirit in baptised believers aged 16 and up as they look ahead to a life of faithful discipleship.

If you’re interested in being baptised or confirmed, contact our Maturity Minister, Shane Dirks.

Serving on a team

Serving on a team is a great way to love one another, get connected, and help more people come to know Jesus. If you call Figtree Anglican Church home, there is a variety of opportunities to use your skills and abilities to serve others.

The best way to start is a conversation with a Ministry Team member about what areas might be a good fit for you.
