world missions conference 2025

The annual World Missions Conference (WMC) is our focus on gospel mission across the globe. It’s a reminder that as well as being involved in proclaiming the gospel here in Wollongong, we also have a part to play in the gospel going forward around the world.

This year, we gather under the inspiring biblical theme of Restoration – a vision of the world restored to Jesus through ‘A Shaping Gospel’.

Our special guest, Warwick de Jersey, will be speaking at all services on Sunday 17 and 24 August.

As we reflect on Romans 12–16 during August, we see a compelling call for followers of Jesus to live lives transformed by God’s grace, marked by sacrificial love, humble service, and gospel-shaped missional hearts. Enduring restoration begins in hearts, minds, and mouths aligned with Jesus and His gospel, overflowing amongst His people, and extending to the ends of the earth.

The purpose of the conference is:

  • Build a biblical understanding of mission;
  • Challenge us to be active in mission;
  • Raise support for our Mission Partners

so that we may

2025 Mission Partners

We are thankful to partner with seven extraordinary projects, each playing a small but significant part in God’s global restoration story:

African Enterprise

church engagement project

African Enterprise (AE) has been evangelising the cities of Africa through word and deed in partnership with the Church for over 60 years. This is done through stratified evangelism – reaching every strata of society with the gospel.

Under the leadership of Simba Musvamhiri, AE’s work in Australia has grown in strength, providing vital support, prayer, and resources to fuel the evangelistic work in Africa.

In a special strategic partnership with Figtree Anglican Church (FAC), we are looking to multiply his work by seeding funds for AE to employ a Church Engagement Officer for 1-2 days per week. The impact would be:

  • Expanding AE’s profile and gospel presence in Australian churches;
  • Strengthening connections with mission-minded congregations;
  • Increasing prayer, financial, and relational support for AE’s African evangelism efforts and projects such as the ‘Centre for Champions’ in Rwanda, which has empowered over 5,000 vulnerable youth with education, trade skills, and the hope of the gospel.

This collaboration reflects FAC’s commitment to global gospel impact and empowering strategic, sustainable mission.

The Bible Society Australia

Equipping Indigenous Bible Translators

Figtree Anglican Church’s support helps train aspiring First Nations Bible translators through the Certificate II in Bible Translation at Nungalinya College in Darwin.

This entry-level program is crucial for the continuation and renewal of translation work in Indigenous First Languages, particularly in the Northern Territory. The course teaches students to read and write in their Indigenous language, as well as Bible translation process and principles, forming an essential foundation for those interested in becoming Bible translators and ensuring the gospel speaks powerfully across generations and cultures.

Trent and Alice McGrath
The Village Church, Jindabyne

The Village Church (TVC) exists in the rural, albeit frequently visited, town of Jindabyne in the NSW Snowy Mountains. Currently, Trent is the only theologically trained and ordained, full-time Anglican minister in the Snowy Monaro region. Over the last five years, TVC has become a spiritual home for many Christians to worship Jesus and grow in their faith, while also serving as a “home away from home”, church to those seasonal visitors who come to work and play on the mountain during winter. By God’s grace, we long to see hundreds of people come to know Jesus and make Him known.

Elizabeth in the Middle East

For the last three years, Figtree Anglican Church (FAC) has been in a valuable partnership with Elizabeth serving in the Middle East. Elizabeth serves and trains young adults in a church in the Middle East where over 110 different nations are represented every week. God is working powerfully in this church to bring people to a knowledge of his Son. FAC’s partnership helps the church steward the many gospel opportunities arising there. A particular prayer for the church is that discipleship to Jesus would become the driving priority for those who have recently come to know Jesus.

Elizabeth is working in the region long-term, developing language skills and building relationships with young people. This includes running training courses and exploring future ministry opportunities.

Evangelism Explosion Africa

nigerian anglican youth project

This project is in partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Nigeria and Evangelism Explosion Africa to equip young leaders to confidently share the Gospel through the EE4G ministry.

Rod Story and members of Figtree Anglican Church will lead the first phase of training 40 youth pastors – selected from a gathering of 1,600 leaders in Asaba, Delta State – to lead outreach in 100 churches.

Building on successful launches in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia, this initiative marks a strategic expansion into one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing Christian populations.

With ongoing support and training through 2026, this project seeks to establish a sustainable, gospel-centered youth movement across Nigeria.

Open Doors

supporting the persecuted church in india

Through trusted local partners and the generosity of partners across Australia and New Zealand, this project could strengthen up to 3,000 vulnerable Christians in India this year. Despite ongoing persecution and security challenges, your gift could equip the church in India through four key areas: emotional and mental healing, social awareness and community reconciliation, biblical and discipleship training, and economic survival and sustenance.

As part of a broader global effort reaching believers in India, your support could help meet urgent needs and grow long-term resilience in the body of Christ.

Vietnam Church for the Deaf

lighthouse evangelical church, vietnam

Figtree Anglican Church (FAC) has a long history of partnering in mission with Lighthouse Evangelical Church (LEC) in Vietnam, including the help to realise LEC’s vision to plant a Church for the Deaf in Ho Chi Minh City.

This small congregation of LEC Deaf Church has been able to run vital mission outreach efforts over the last year and your support helped them create Quiet Time booklets designed specifically for the deaf, and train key deaf leaders for ministry. These resources have empowered the deaf community to grow in faith and reach others with the gospel. Your partnership is making a lasting impact where it’s most needed.

The mission field is vast, with the deaf population in Vietnam numbering about 2.5 million, of which at least 45,000 live in Ho Chi Minh City.

“In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll …” (Isaiah 29:18)

Giving to our Mission Partners

All giving that is directed to a specific Mission Partner will be allocated exclusively to that partner, regardless of whether the fundraising target for that partner has already been achieved.

In addition to the option of direct giving to a Mission Partner(s), a person can also choose to give to a General Mission Fund.

At its first meeting after the conference, the Missions MAT will make a recommendation to Parish Council as to how all of the money in the General Mission Fund will be distributed to the Mission Partners. This final distribution will be communicated to our church community.

This year, we are also giving you the option to make an additional contribution toward the conference running costs, which is projected to be around $4,500. No funds given to a Mission Partner or the General Mission Fund will be diverted to this fund.
