In 2008 Ian was appointed Rector of our Parish, with responsibility for Figtree Anglican Church and our historical Soldiers' and Miners' Memorial Church located in Mt Kembla. Ian’s role is leading the mission and vision of the church, and putting in place under God, strategies to see our church have an ever expanding influence for the Kingdom of God, in both our local community and across the nations. With his great passion and heart for seeing people come to faith, Ian is committed to continuing to faithfully and with an adventurous and compassionate spirit, serve God in this significant position of leadership.
Ian is married to Rhonda. They have 3 adult children, all married, and 3 grandchildren. Ian enjoys running, reading, going to the movies with Rhonda and sharing time with his precious family.
Ron is married to Julie. They have two adult children, Jacob & Emily and have been part of the FAC community since December 2004. Ron started his time at FAC as the Youth & Young Adults Minister. Over time his role has morphed & changed in several ways.
Currently Ron is charged with overseeing our “Next Generation” ministry area, which includes children, youth and young adult ministry. A large part of Ron’s work is developing the leaders around him. While he has less involvement on the front-line of Youth Ministry, he remains passionate about local churches having healthy & engaging communities where young people can know Jesus.
Ron enjoys jogging and good dining with family and friends. He is the co-author of two books on Youth Ministry.
Lachlan is married to Bec. They have two ‘kids’; Tim and Emily and have been part of FAC since 2013. Lachlan is internationally. His role includes overseeing FAC outreach ministries as well as encouraging and equipping the church for evangelism.
Lachlan is passionate about people coming into a relationship with Jesus as Lord and Saviour and counts it a privilege to be on the preaching team and to lead a LifeGroup with his wife Bec. Lachlan enjoys sailing, kite- boarding, squash and skiing.
Greg joined the ministry team at FAC in September 2014. He is responsible for developing and shaping the culture and content of creative arts and worship to ensure the arts are utilised in the achievement of our mission and vision. Greg is also responsible for providing spiritual and creative leadership to all artists to ensure that the arts ministry is contemporary, inspirational and at all times, God honouring.
Prior to taking up his role at FAC, Greg was Assistant Faculty Head of Music and Song Writing at C3 College Oxford Falls for 5 years. He also brings a wealth of experience in the field, having worked professionally as a musician and music producer for over 10 years in Sydney.
Greg is married to Whitney. They have two beautiful daughters Audrey and Mia.
Karen was appointed to the position of Executive Manager in 2009, with a very diverse role that sees her responsible for overseeing the operations of FAC. A significant amount of Karen’s role is working with the leadership team for strategic planning and implementation, and for ensuring processes are in place for the smooth functioning of ministries & the facility.
Karen is responsible for ensuring we have compliance systems in place. She also supports Ian in his role, coordinating some of our major church wide events.
Karen & her husband Robert have been members of FAC since 1988. She enjoys reading historical & cultural novels, spending quality time with close friends & her family, especially her two precious grandchildren.
Jane’s role at FAC involves the welcoming and integration of people socially and spiritually into church life. She considers it a great privilege to assist new people as they find their way at FAC, and particularly loves to share the gospel with women who are seeking to know more about the Christian faith. Jane is also passionate about finding people a home in a LifeGroup, and encouraging and equipping LifeGroup leaders in their vital role as spiritual shepherds.
Jane is married to Steve and together they have four young adult ‘kids’ (3 married) and a faithful kelpie cross. Jane loves beach rambling, watching ‘bonnet dramas’ and playing Chopin and bridge!
Myles is married to Erin and dad to their two gorgeous daughters, Lucy and Norah. The family moved to the region at the end of 2015, when Myles was appointed Youth Minister at FAC. He has responsibility for leading and shaping the youth ministry, in particular evangelism of youth and discipleship of the FAC youth community. He is also responsible for discipling and caring for youth leaders as they seek to love and care for the youth. Myles longs for the whole of Wollongong to delight in what Jesus has done.
Prior to FAC, Myles was Youth & Young Adult Pastor at Beverly Hills Anglican Church and [email protected] (Peakhurst Church plant). Myles completed his Bachelor of Divinity at Moore College in 2013.
Myles enjoys good food, good coffee, & good company - preferably all at the same time!
Thayil is married to Rosy. With their two sons Sam & Tim, they arrived in Wollongong from India at the end of 2008, joining FAC in January 2009. Prior to moving to Australia, Thayil had over 30 years of pastoral experience in many parts of Northern India; teaching, evangelism, church planting and discipleship.
Thayil is responsible for developing and establishing a strong church based ministry at KIC (Keiraville International Church) for international students at UOW and the wider community. Thayil was ordained as a Deacon according the Sydney Anglican Diocese requirement in February 2012 and priested in November 2015.
Before entering Moore College in 1976, Peter was Personnel Officer at the Nepean College of Advanced Education. After College, he and his wife Heather served in the Armidale Diocese before returning to the Sydney Diocese (Wilberforce, Newport Beach, Hunters Hill then Rector of Waverley Parish), after which time they retired to the Illawarra.
In June 2015, Peter was invited to step out of ‘retirement’ to join the ministry team 2 days a week with a main focus on establishing a ministry among the early retirees & seniors. Peter also assists in pastoral care and writing Bible studies. He is grateful for the opportunity to continue using his experiences for Kingdom work. Peter & Heather were married in 1974. They have 3 children & 8 grandchildren.
Fay and her husband Des have been faithful members of our FAC community since the early 1990s, attending the 10am service.
A couple of years later Fay joined the dedicated Pastoral Care team, and counts it a privilege to work in the valuable, and often behind the scene pastoral care ministry. This small but dedicated team are committed to caring for the whole person with practical, physical and spiritual needs, providing care beyond that which takes place in LifeGroups. Fay is married to Des. They have 3 adult children and 4 precious grandchildren.
Since 1995, Karen has worked part time at FAC providing financial administration support. Karen is responsible for processing our accounts payable and receivable, including processing donations for our gift day projects and tax deductible trust funds eg scripture and the Figtree Foundation. She also has bookkeeping responsibilities associated with maintaining the financial and personnel records of FAC.
Karen believes every $ given is a kingdom $ and is passionate to ensure our financial resources are managed well for seeing people come into His Kingdom.
Karen is mum to her young adult son Matthew. On the weekend keep an eye out for her if you are on Lake Illawarra; you may see her paddling on a dragon boat.
Adele joined the administration team in 2010, taking on the position of Office Manager in 2012. She is responsible for thebroad range of tasks associated with coordinating a very busy front office, which includes organising service support and site maintenance rosters and providing administrative support for ministry events and our Sunday services. She also oversees and encourages some of the wonderful volunteers who assist in the office during the week.
Adele is married to Mario and they have two children, Joshua and Stephanie. She enjoys time with her family, reading, watching movies and participating in Physical Culture.
Jenny grew up in Sydney and the Southern Highlands. She is married to Tony and together they have 7 children & 7 grandchildren. They have lived in a number of towns, returning to Wollongong 2 and a half years ago.
Food, gardening, family and kayaking are some of her favourite things (not in that order!)
Hayley works under the Next Generation banner coordinating Scripture. Hayley receives much joy working alongside scripture teachers and helpers enabling them to deliver accredited scripture in six local primary schools and two high schools.
Hayley also assists other staff with the development and delivery of both Kid’s Fun Days and the Kid’s Camp with the hope that local kids can have fun whilst hearing about the joy and security they can have in Jesus.
Hayley is married to Pete and together they have two beautiful young girls, Tahlia and Sophie. She is thankful that she has had the privilege to live and work in the Illawarra for the past 10 years.
Ruth joined the team in May 2015. She is responsible for maintaining the administrative side of Children’s Ministry to allow others to easily and faithfully serve in this ministry.
Ruth also facilitates the young adult community known as ReGen, partnering with others in this community to organise events and encourage fellowship with one another.
Ruth is studying two degrees part time; a Business Degree (majoring in management) at UOW and a Diploma of Business Administration (online). Ruth is a year 9 youth leader and a regular worship leader at our FUSE service.
Bek is a fourth year primary education student at UOW, who was appointed to the Children’s Connect intern position in early 2015. As part of her internship, Bek organises and runs our Kid’s Fun Days which are held each term and in November 2015, she started our new Friday night kid’s club, Spark.
Bek sees the Kid’s Fun Days and Spark as great opportunities to connect with kids in the local community who don’t go to another church, providing a safe space where kids can have fun, make lasting friendships and at the same time, hear about Jesus.
Peter works at FAC two days a week as the Youth Intern. He’s been part of FAC since he was 4 years old!
As youth intern, half of his role is helping in the organization of our Friday night Youth Group, with the other half of his role developing and implementing training for our LiTs (Leaders in Training).
He currently studies Psychology at UOW and is in his third year. He has also been studying Theology part-time at Moore College for the last three years. He loves playing music, singing, reading, and studying. His heroes are John Stott and Billy Joel.
Jacob joined the team in March 2015 as an Intern in Creative Arts under Greg Bell. Jacob supports Greg in organising parts of our Sunday gatherings and enjoys continuing to learn more throughout the internship.
The majority of Jacob’s time is spent working with our youth band as they continue to develop their gifts and experience what it means to serve in creative arts at FAC.
Jacob will complete his internship at the end of February 2017. He will then focus on completing his Bachelor of Information Technology with the goal of seeking employment in this industry. Jacob is a Year 8 Youth Leader, and a regular worship leader at our FUSE service.
Shenae has been a member of FAC since 2009. Her broad involvement in ministry at FAC springs from her passion and desire to know Jesus deeply in order to be able to share Him confidently with others, encouraging those around her to do the same. To Shenae, there’s nothing more exciting than the moment a person understands more about Christ.
As the Outreach 410 Intern, Shenae is responsible for helping develop and coordinate the Prayer aspect of our Key Mission Communities. She runs and coordinates the children’s outreach ministry Kzone at Unanderra Community Centre and helps facilitate the training of evangelistic tools and courses within FAC.
After completing her degree in design at Billy Blue College, Jordan was appointed in February 2015 as one of our first 410Interns; a part time 2 day per week position. Jordan uses her training and experience to develop advertising, branding and design solutions across a whole range of FAC ministries.
Jordan has a passion to continue using her gifting to serve God, and enjoys the many opportunities this role has opened up for her to explore this in diverse ways.
Jordan has been a member of FAC for most of her life, with her family belonging to the FAC community for many years. She loves leading at Youth and Spark on Friday nights and Fuel on Sunday afternoon.
